Truce for Christmas celebrations in Pittsboro?

by Bill Crawford

Pittsboro, NC – In cooperation with Mayor Perry and a few other people, I have been doing my best to make a better situation out of the statue protests, even if it was not in my power to prevent them.

While the protests do continue, they have developed a predictability to them that I am confident will allow life to continue with a minimum of extra headaches.

The Friends of the Memorial have decided to keep the bulk of their efforts on Saturdays in the pocket of private property across from the Horton School and not in the town circle. Being that the Antifa people seem to follow them, it seems reasonable to say that we can all access our downtown businesses while they all exercise their First Amendment rights.

We will be striving in the near future to ensure that whatever holiday celebrations are coming, this separation can be maintained.

I would encourage all of you to do all the shopping, celebrating and just walking around you would normally do. I look forward to the tree lighting and the Pittsboro Christmas Parade, and hope to see you there.
