Ride, rally, reach: Cruisin’ for Champions supports Special Olympics NC

By Randall Rigsbee

Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office will host its second annual Cruisin’ for Champions motorcycle ride on Saturday, September 26, benefiting Special Olympics North Carolina.

The event will begin at White Oak Beach at Jordan Lake, with registration at 9 a.m. and kickstands up at 10 a.m. Riders will take part in an escorted scenic ride through Chatham County before returning to White Oak Beach for food, music, games, raffle prizes and more.

The event is open to all riders, and the public is encouraged to attend and support Special Olympics athletes.

Last year’s inaugural ride drew 121 motorcyclists and raised more than $11,000 for Special Olympics North Carolina.

The Sheriff’s Office is also excited about the recent establishment of Special Olympics Chatham County, a new local chapter that will provide additional opportunities for athletes in Chatham County and allow fundraising efforts such as Cruisin’ for Champions to have an even greater local impact.

“Last year showed us what can happen when our community comes together for a good cause,” said Sheriff Steve Maynor. “We’re looking forward to another great ride and another opportunity to support the athletes of Special Olympics North Carolina and, now, right here in Chatham County.”

Registration is $30 per rider and $10 for passengers. Registration includes breakfast, lunch, a complimentary event T-shirt and a custom challenge coin.

Proceeds from Cruisin’ for Champions will benefit Special Olympics North Carolina, helping provide year-round sports training and competition opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
