Chatham School Board will probably extend mandatory masking again

Pittsboro, NC – At Monday’s Chatham County Board of Education meeting Dr. Jackson & Mr. Blice plan to recommend that the Chatham School Board continue requiring masking of all school children and school employees. There has been no indication of what benchmarks should be met to remove this requirement.

Agenda Item IV – COVID-19 Update (Jackson)

Dr. Anthony Jackson, Superintendent
Mr. Chris Blice, Assistant Superintendent for Operations

Session Law 2021-130, Section 10/Senate Bill 654 requires local school districts to adopt a policy or revisit their existing stance, at least once a month, regarding the use of face coverings by employees and students for the school year. Dr. Jackson asked the Board to reaffirm the decision of universal masking that they previously made in order to keep students in the classrooms.

Suggested Motion
I move that the Chatham County Board of Education require universal masking for all students and staff in grades PreK-12, on all CCS campuses in accordance with Session Law 2021-130, Section 10/Senate Bill 654.
