2020 Reindeer Run is going virtual

Pittsboro, NC – Due to Covid-19 and different restrictions on gathering, the 2020 Reindeer Run is switching to a virtual format. Chatham County Partnership for Children will be marking courses at multiple Chatham County Parks as well as Central Carolina Community College.

To make the run more accessible to more people and to not intentionally overcrowd any of the courses on a given day, runners will be able to run their 5k any time the parks are open between Friday, December 4 and Saturday December 12.

Run any time that park trails are open between these dates. All results must be submitted by 5 pm on Saturday, December 12 to be eligible for any race prizes.

These locations will be available for you to go and run your 5k using the running app Strava to record your time. You are also able to run at any place of your choosing but be sure to monitor your distance to make sure you do not finish short of a 5k or go over the required distance.

Once you have completed your 5k and want to submit that as your official time, you can enter it into the Reindeer Run group we will have set up. Any awards and prizes will be distributed based on these submitted times.

Rudolph’s Kids and Families Fun Run Challenge!

Rudolph has lost his way and is stranded in Pittsboro, North Carolina! This year we are challenging kids and families to “Run Rudolph Home”. The North Pole is located 6038km (3752mi) away from Pittsboro, NC. Our challenge is for families to register and run the Chatham Parks or Central Carolina Community College to accumulate enough distance to get Rudolph back in time for Christmas!

Register Early

Shirts are guaranteed only for entries received by November 20. Runners can register up until December 11 but will not receive race packets. Deadline to receive a race packet is Monday, December 1. Register Online

  • Individual 5K – $30
  • Team 5K – $30 per person
  • School Teams 5k – $25 per person
  • Rudolph’s Kids and Family Fun Run Challenge – $5 per person

Courses

For a virtual race you are able to run wherever you choose, just be sure to track your distance to submit an accurate 5k time. However we will still be using some locations as measured out running sites. Addresses to the different parks will be emailed out once details are finalized.

Teams

Participate in the 5K as an individual or team!

Teams consist of five persons or more. Team time will consist of the fastest three times on the team added together.

You can register your team online, all members at once (with one credit card) or one by one (with separate credit cards). Or you can register with a printed registration form (above). If using a paper registration form, each individual member will need to fill one out.

Shirts & Awards

Awards will be given in the following categories:  Individual Overall, Individual age groups, and Teams.

Shirts for all events are guaranteed only to participants who register by November 20. Shirt sizes cannot be exchanged or changed after registration.

Race Locations

Locations will be updated as details are finalized. Central Carolina Community College (Pittsboro Campus) is a confirmed location.

Packet pick-up will take place on Thursday, December 3 from 4pm to 8pm at Central Carolina Community College – Pittsboro Campus.

Packet Pick up will be handled “Drive Thru” style this year. We will be set up in the CCCC parking lot near the farm. More details will be emailed out as this date comes closer.

If you are running with a team, please be prepared to pick up packets for your whole team at one time.

If you would like your packet mailed to you, there will be a $5 (per participant) additional charge for shipping.

Race Day Registration

There will not be race day registration this year due to the virtual format of the race though we may consider allowing more registrations during the week of the race with the understanding that packets and shirts may not be available. These registrants would still be eligible for any prizes in their respective categories.
