Perfect Finish Pushes Chatham Central Past Seaforth in Chatham County Football Power Rankings

BEAR CREEK - Chatham Central`s historic season has produced one more first before the state playoffs begin: The undefeated Bears have climbed to the top of the Chatham County high school football power rankings.

Chatham Central completed a 10-0 regular season by winning 42-28 at South Davidson, a six-win opponent, while Seaforth closed at 9-1 with a decisive 33-8 victory over one-win Carrboro. The difference in opponent strength, combined with the Bears` perfect record, conference championship and No. 1 seed in the N.C. High School Athletic Association`s 1A West bracket, was enough to reverse the top two positions from last week.

Seaforth slips only one spot and remains a dangerous postseason team. Quarterback Duncan Parker accounted for four more touchdowns against Carrboro, giving the Hawks a nine-game record that includes a conference championship and the No. 5 seed in the 5A East.

The bottom half of the rankings remains unchanged. Northwood stays third after a 16-13 loss at West Carteret, while Jordan-Matthews remains fourth following a 59-6 loss at Eastern Randolph.

This week`s separation at the top is narrow. Seaforth may possess the county`s highest offensive ceiling, but Chatham Central earned the move by defeating the stronger final-week opponent and finishing without a loss.

## 1. Chatham Central Bears

**Record: 10-0, 6-0 Greater Triad 1A/2A Conference**
**Previous ranking: No. 2**
**Movement: Up one**

Chatham Central could hardly have written a better final chapter to its regular season.

The Bears went on the road against a South Davidson team that entered the game with six victories and scored touchdowns on their first six meaningful possessions, building a 42-21 advantage through three quarters before closing out a 42-28 win. South Davidson finished 6-4, making it the strongest opponent faced by either of the county`s top two teams in the final week.
