North Carolina revises starting date for early voting for 2018 general election

Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham Board of Elections advises county voters of a change made by state officials in the early voting schedule after the county had included information on early voting in the August tax bills mailing. The state has specified that early voting will begin on Wednesday, October 17, instead of October 18.

“We included a yellow flyer in tax bills on early voting sites and schedules. All of the information provided is correct except that early voting (also called absentee one-stop voting) will start one day earlier than stated,” said Chatham County Elections Director Pandora Paschal.

2018 ElectionsPaschal said that the flyers were printed before new legislation required early voting sites to open on the third Wednesday before an election, instead of the third Thursday before an election.
“The Chatham County Board of Elections has a high priority to disseminate accurate information, be transparent, and to ensure that all Chatham county citizens have the right to vote in fair and impartial elections,” Paschal said. “We wanted to let people know about this change as soon as possible.”
