Pittsboro, NC – A Garner man faces three felony charges after investigators with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office determined that a pair of Cartier gold earrings reported stolen from a FedEx package had been pawned for $500.00.
Fredis Jefry Gomez Amaya, 21, of 106 Forest Manor Drive, Garner, is charged with felony larceny, felony possession of stolen goods and felony obtaining property by false pretenses.
The charges stem from a September 9, 2026, report from the Senior Security Specialist for FedEx regarding the earrings, which were valued at $2,320.00. The package was being delivered to an address on Pea Ridge Road in New Hill and was pawned on August 6 for $500.00.
Investigators determined that Amaya was the assigned driver of the FedEx truck carrying the package. FedEx security footage showed the package loaded onto the truck undamaged and unopened.
The intended recipient told investigators that when the package arrived, it was open, and she refused delivery. She said Amaya repeatedly encouraged her to reject the package and attempted to have her sign a document indicating that the package had been delivered. She refused to sign the document.
Investigators also obtained security footage from the pawn shop showing Amaya selling the earrings for $500.00.
Warrants were issued charging Amaya with the three felonies. The arrest warrants have not yet been served.
