Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard conducted a 9/11 remembrance ceremony Friday morning at the 9/11 Memorial near the Chatham County Justice Center in Pittsboro, marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The ceremony included the presentation of the American flag and a ceremonial wreath by members of the Honor Guard. Beverly Goldston of the Honor Guard sang the National Anthem, while Chatham County Sheriff’s Office Animal Resource Center attendant Logan Berreondo sang “America, the Beautiful,” accompanying himself on guitar. CCSO Chaplain Mark Agan offered a prayer.

Members of the community and local government attended the ceremony, along with fire departments from throughout Chatham County, FirstHealth and Chatham County Emergency Management. Fire trucks from several local departments lined Sanford Road alongside the memorial. Many attendees also brought roses to place at the memorial, which includes a 19-foot-long steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in New York City.

The ceremony offered a quiet opportunity to remember the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, and to honor the first responders, public servants and others who answered the call in the aftermath.

The Sheriff’s Office also appreciates the assistance of the Pittsboro Fire Department, whose members provided Taps music for the ceremony.
