Pittsboro weighs Town Hall’s identity, park’s future as growth reshapes the town

Pittsboro, NC – Pittsboro commissioners moved toward a more traditional design for a new Town Hall while debating how quickly to advance plans for a major public park during a Sept. 28 special meeting that exposed competing views about civic identity, environmental stewardship and the town’s growth.

The two projects would serve different purposes: one would house municipal government, while the other would provide access to approximately 72 acres of parkland. But both discussions centered on a common question: How should Pittsboro invest in public places that residents could use for generations?

For Town Hall, commissioners largely favored further development of an architectural option featuring a gabled roof, residential-scale materials and traditional details. They also requested consideration of different colors, additional brick, clearer signage, pedestrian access and outdoor gathering spaces.
