Brave Miss World: A message of strength and resilience

Pittsboro, NC – In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in April, Chatham Community Library will host a virtual film screening of Brave Miss World (2013). This program is free and open to the public.

WHO: In October 1998, 18-year-old Linor Abargil was stabbed and raped while working as a model in Milan. Weeks later she was crowned Israel’s first Miss World. Over the course of five years, director Cecilia Peck follows Abargil on a mission to confront the trauma of her past. Abargil’s journey includes a hunt for other victims of the man convicted of raping her, aiming to prevent his parole. Abargil, a poised and empathic advocate, travels from Hollywood to rape crisis centers, American college campuses, and the townships of South Africa to share her story and inspire others to confront shame and to heal.

A password is required at the time of viewing. Those who are interested may contact to request the password or for additional information. The library has purchased a hard copy of the film if residents who wish to see the film miss the virtual screening window.
