Another discharge of untreated wastewater in Briar Chapel community

Chatham County, NC – Old North State Water Company had a discharge of untreated wastewater on October 31, 2020 of an estimated 5000 gallons near Great Ridge Parkway in the Briar Chapel Community. The discharge occurred from the result of a line break in force main near the pump station off Great Ridge Parkway.  Approximately 300 gallons of this untreated wastewater entered an Unnamed Tributary to Pokeberry Creek which is in the Cape Fear River Basin.

Old North’s staff found evidence that the spill impacted surface water in the Cape Fear River Basin. However, as required, Old North’s staff notified the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality on October 31, 2020 and the Division of Water Resources is reviewing the matter.
