Joe Wagner Post 7313 has canceled all functions at their building

Pittsboro, NC – The continued spread of COVID-19 across the globe is a serious reminder of the importance of the work that the Veterans of Foreign Wars Joe Wagner Post 7313 does every day for the fellow Veterans and Residents of Chatham County.  Following the recommendations of Chatham County and North Carolina State Department of Health for Organizations and Group Events, Joe Wagner Post 7313 has canceled all functions at our building.  The effort is to minimize the possibility of exposing our members and guests to the COVID-19 virus after the announcement of the second unrelated resident of Chatham County tested positive for novel coronavirus.

Effective this week, all post functions have been canceled for the remainder of the month.  The closure was done out of an abundance of caution to protect the membership and their families as many of them are at high risk for severe illness from the COVID-19 virus due to age and underlying chronic medical conditions.

Senior leadership at the Post will continue to monitor the recommendations from our Health Department based on the conditions of this pandemic in our community.  Before the regularly scheduled April meeting, the leadership team will reassess the situation and the plans going forward.

Post senior leadership sanitized the VFW Post located on West Street in Pittsboro, NC, and closed the doors for business.  The use of CDC recommended cleaning and disinfection protocol was used, ensuring all horizontal, frequently-touched, and common area surfaces were sanitized satisfactorily.  The attached photo is of Junior Vice Commander, Rocky Smith of Pittsboro, NC disinfecting the buffet serving area of the Post.

The Post Commander, Andy Cochran, issued the Post’s first General Order to the membership, ensuring continuity to their activities serving Chatham County. The actions undertaken are not to cause alarm but reinforce there is no better group of people, health care system, or country in the world to lead and resolve this public health crisis.
