Durham, NC – Redshirt junior quarterback Daniel Jones completed 12-of-20 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns to highlight Duke’s 120-snap scrimmage on Saturday night at Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium.
The three scoring tosses covered 17, 19 and two yards as Jones found senior wide receiver T.J. Rahming, redshirt senior wide receiver Johnathan Lloyd and sophomore tight end Noah Gray, respectively. Freshman wideout Jake Bobo paced the Blue Devils with four receptions for 93 yards on the night while Rahming finished with three catches for 61 yards.
Duke’s rushing attack was spearheaded by sophomore Deon Jackson (13 carries for 80 yards) and redshirt freshman Marvin Hubbard III (16-75), who combined for 155 yards on 29 attempts. Jackson added a scoring run of one yard. In addition, rookie Mataeo Durant rushed 12 times for 36 yards.
Defensively, junior cornerback Mark Gilbert logged one tackle for loss and one interception while senior linebacker Ben Humphreys was credited with two stops behind the line of scrimmage. Redshirt freshman cornerback Josh Blackwell contributed a pair of pass breakups.
Placekickers Collin Wareham and AJ Reed combined to make all nine of their field goal attempts. Wareham, working with the first unit, was successful from 23, 31, 32, 39, 40 and 45 yards while Reed connected from 36, 37 and 46 yards away.
Duke opens the 2018 season at home on Friday, August 31 against Army West Point. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., and the game will be televised by ESPNU.
