Chatham County residents help identify break-in suspect via Facebook

Pittsboro, NC – On June 20, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office received reports of multiple break-ins in the area of Bent Tree and Old Graham Road, Pittsboro. Cash was stolen from a safe at one location and surveillance video captured images of the suspect and a vehicle. On June 22, the Sheriff’s Office released the surveillance images to the public via Facebook in an attempt to locate and identify the suspect. Residents recognized the suspect and shared that information with deputies.

“Our deputies believe in working closely with the community to solve crimes,” says Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson. “It is important to us that residents have a voice and feel comfortable sharing information with us. By joining together, we are able to fight crime more effectively and have a greater impact.”

Sheriff Roberson says he is immensely grateful to everyone who shared the original post or contacted investigators with tips and information leading to an arrest.

Deputies charged Kenneth Marvell Reaves, Jr., 40, of 135 Winston Way, Apt. 105, Pittsboro, with two counts of felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, felony safecracking, and injury to personal property. Reaves was taken into custody and assigned a $10,000.00 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on July 11.
