Pittsboro, NC – The Chatham County Board of Commissioners has authorized the development of a comprehensive plan, which includes formation of a Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee to oversee the process. The comprehensive plan will serve as a 25-year vision document for the county. The deadline to apply for the committee is August 24, 2015.
Development of a comprehensive plan will involve substantial community input from the community and coordination with various county and municipal entities. The plan will bring together several existing smaller plans and related policies, with the end goal of creating a unified planning vision.
According to the request for proposals, the purpose of the plan is to be forward thinking and address anticipated growth in a way that preserves the community character, fosters economic development and recognizes the county’s natural assets.
A steering committee will lead the comprehensive plan development process, working closely with a consultant to be selected through a competitive selection process. The entire process is expected to take two years, once a consultant is in place.
The steering committee will be involved in extensive work during this period, so a commitment to evening meetings should be expected on and off throughout. The committee will coordinate with county and town departments, other governmental agencies, the private sector, citizens groups and the general public.
The Board of Commissioners will appoint three at-large members of the Steering Committee. Other members will include representatives from several of Chatham County’s advisory boards and committees.
If interested in serving on the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, complete and submit a Chatham County volunteer application form no later than Wednesday, August 26, 2015.
