Eugene Cottrell, director of bands at Northwood High School, is the 2011 recipient of the Jackson Parkhurst Award for Special Achievement. This marks the third time the North Carolina Symphony has given this award to an outstanding state music educator. He will receive $500 and be honored at a Symphony concert on Saturday, June 4, during a reception before the Symphony’s “Around the World in Eighty Minutes” concert at the Cary Koka Booth Amphitheatre.
