ARTS IN EDUCATION WEEK
September 10-16 2023 is Arts in Education Week. Chatham County Schools has a long history of supporting the Arts across the district. Our schools are competitive in local, regional, and state-level events. Chatham has been named one of the "Best Communities for
Music Education", one of only 2 in the state for their commitment to supporting music in schools. We have support from the Chatham Arts Council, who provide our schools with artists residencies each year that provide our students with high-quality instruction in the
arts. 2023 is the first year we also have ArtistYear AmeriCorps Members serving in CCS schools as “Teaching Artists” in partnership with our arts teachers. Members use community focused, student-centered arts education to enhance school climate, inspire active youth citizenship and foster 21st-century skills, resulting in improved academic behaviors and attitudes.
In 2010, Congress passed House Resolution 275 designating the week beginning with the second Sunday in September as National Arts in Education Week. During this week, the field of arts education joins together in communities across the country to advocate, educate, and celebrate the impact and transformative power of the arts in education.
