Pittsboro, NC – On Monday, June 15, 2020, the Chatham County Board of Commissioners will hold its work and regular sessions at the Chatham County Agriculture and Conference Center located at 1192 US 64 Business West, Pittsboro. The work session will begin at 2:30 p.m. and the regular session will begin at 6 p.m.
Please note that due to mass gathering restrictions as outlined in the Governor’s Executive Order 141, public seating will be limited; however, the meeting can be attended virtually using GoToWebinar. To attend remotely, residents must register for the Board of Commissioner GoToWebinar.
We can only accommodate 40 members of the public at the Conference Center. There will be four overflow rooms, with only ten people per room. Seats will be arranged six feet apart to comply with social distancing protocols. The meeting will be displayed in each overflow room. Once public seating is full, residents will be asked to remain outside the building, where they must remain at least six feet apart at all times.
We will also be able to allow ten residents to attend the meeting in an overflow location at the Chatham County courthouse located at 9 Hillsboro Street, Pittsboro. The historic courthouse will only be open for the 6 p.m. Regular Session. The County strongly encourages members of the public to wear masks if they are attending the meeting in person.
If there are any residents who plan to address the Board during the public input or public hearing at the June 15 6 p.m. meeting, they can sign up to speak by completing the form. The public input session is held to give citizens an opportunity to speak on any item, with the exception of public hearing items. The Board allows thirty minutes for the public input session to allow as many as possible to speak. Speakers are limited to no more than three minutes each and may not give their time to another speaker. If residents have insufficient time to finish their comments or if the public input session concludes before residents are able to give their comments, we welcome their comments in writing and those comments will be included in the official meeting minutes. Mock Public Hearing
After the Board of Commissioners has handled all items on the agenda, it will adjourn the meeting and then hold a mock public hearing to allow the Board, staff, and residents to test the different components of the meeting. We know that when using new technology there will be some challenges but we hope we will still be able to make it fun for everyone participating while helping to test the technical and logistical details of such a meeting.
At the mock public hearing, the Board will “Receive public comment on a request from the North Carolina Hot Dog Company to declare that hot dogs are called a sandwich in Chatham County.”
Do you think a hot dog is a sandwich? We want to hear your thoughts. We would like for residents to sign up to speak in person (and we hope we can count on a few residents to give their comments from the Historic Courthouse location as well), remotely via GoToWebinar and also by voicemail. We will allow comments from ten people at the Agriculture and Conference Center, ten people at the Historic Courthouse, ten people via GoToWebinar, and ten people via voicemail.
