Raleigh, NC – The North Carolina Democratic Party (NCDP) has announced it will hold its State Convention virtually on June 6, 2020.
Amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the NCDP has adjusted a number of its forums and meetings to digital platforms, in accordance with Governor Roy Cooper’s guidance on social distancing. On April 25, the Party held its County Conventions in 92 of North Carolina’s 100 counties, with record attendance at many of the virtual gatherings. The Party’s District Conventions were held virtually on May 13.
“As our state begins to reopen in phases, it’s critical that we continue to prioritize the health and safety of our members and the general public,” said NCDP Executive Director Meredith Cuomo. “While we won’t be gathering in person for this year’s State Convention, moving to a digital platform gives us a chance to rethink our traditional format for this event and find innovative ways to energize our members as we look toward November. After the incredible turnout we experienced with our County Conventions in April, we’re eager for Democrats across North Carolina to rally together and unite behind our slate of candidates.”
The State Convention will consist of sessions on party business, including the election of at-large and PLEO (Party Leader and Elected Official) delegates to the Democratic National Convention and Presidential Electors. The Convention will also include appearances by statewide candidates and special guests.
