Pittsboro, NC -On April 14, 2016 the Chatham Education Foundation hosted the 2nd Showcase of Schools. This event made it clear that if you walk into the door of any of the 17 Chatham County Schools, our students are being challenged, engaged, respected and given opportunities to innovate in all subject areas.
Each school was asked to highlight extracurricular program and wow did they come prepared. Students, staff and administrators showed attendees not just what they do during any given day, but how their learning and leadership skills are portrayed outside of the classroom.
Students from Siler City Elementary School spoke at length This program, structured around the Steven Covey 7 Habits book, gives students skills that empower them to take personal responsibility, work collaboratively, and instills that EVERY student can be a leader.
The Jordan-Matthews Robotics Team dazzled us with their quick hands, coding skills, and ability to move a large robotic machine between the crowd while the middle schools displayed their science and math accolades, Junior National Honor Societies and Junior Beta Clubs, both focusing on academics and character.
The Chatham Middle School Exceptional Children program entertained the audience with a bells performance with music made possible through a Chatham Education Foundation Creative Teaching Grant. Music teacher, Ethan Luke, directed his students and audience volunteers in a few songs and the performers and volunteers were outstanding.
The food for the event was catered by the Chatham Central Culinary Arts program and gave the attendees and participants that boost they needed to get through a long day.
Other participants included six of the 20 Creative Teaching and Literacy grants supported by the Chatham Education Foundation this school year. Thank you to all of our individual, business and foundation donors who make these projects possible.
From robotics, arts, academic achievements, and life-long leadership skills to music, creative writing, after school clubs, business enterprise course work, advanced technology and so much more, the students in the Chatham County Schools have opportunities to excel and be the future leaders of tomorrow.
