Pittsboro, NC – The N.C. Department of Transportation is finishing a project to upgrade Jack Bennett Road just west of Big Woods Road in Chatham County. Crews opened the route to traffic on Friday, July 10. Work began on the project earlier this spring to realign a sharp curve in the road. The purpose of this project was to increase safety for motorists and pedestrians that travel the route.
Originally scheduled for completion in June, construction was first delayed due to developments in the Westfall subdivision located within the project limits. The project was initially to be constructed in one phase under a total road closure. However, NCDOT worked with the subdivision’s contractor and agreed that the project would need to be constructed in two phases to maintain a single entrance to the Westfall subdivision. Adding this second phase pushed the revised completion date beyond the original, advertised completion date.
NCDOT awarded the contract for the project to Wright Contracting from Siler City for $750,192. It was awarded to the lowest bidder as required by state law.
