Raleigh, NC – The National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes has announced the details of the third annual Hurricanes Summerfest Celebration set for Saturday, July 11, at 10 a.m. Parking and admission are free and all activities will take place inside PNC Arena. The Celebration marks the end of the team’s week-long Prospects Development Camp, and will see the team’s recently-drafted players and camp invitees take part in a scrimmage at noon.
In addition to the scrimmage, an autograph session with the camp’s participants will be held from 10-11 a.m. Wristband distribution for the autograph session will begin at 9 a.m., with availability for the first 500 fans in line at the arena’s East Entrance. At 11 a.m., the team will hold a State of the Hurricanes discussion featuring Head Coach Bill Peters, General Manager Ron Francis and President Don Waddell. The discussion will be hosted by radio play-by-play voice Chuck Kaiton, and take place in section 119.
The family-friendly Celebration will include interactive inflatables, games and experiences, free giveaways, appearances by Stormy and the Storm Squad, discounted concessions, hockey games and extended hours at The Eye team store. Following the team practice, fans of all ages can go onto the ice and take a shot on goal. The event also features an equipment sale, which will include used and non-used sticks, skates, hockey pants, pads, goalie gear and more. Most of the equipment has been used by past and present Canes players (while supplies last).
A new speaker series, Canes Insider, will debut following the prospect scrimmage. The panel discussion will feature local Hurricanes insiders including CarolinaHurricanes.com writer Michael Smith and Hurricanes alumnus Shane Willis. In addition, Video Coach Chris Huffine will speak to fans. In conjunction with Summerfest, the team will host a season ticket open house on Saturday. Interested fans will be able to speak to representatives to learn about ticket packages and can look at available full-season ticket locations.
The Kids ‘N Community Foundation will hold a special fundraiser at their kiosk during the Summerfest Celebration. Located in the East Priority Lounge, fans can choose magnets numbered 1-100 for $50. Each number corresponds with a mystery item autographed by current and former Hurricanes players. Items include replica sticks, photos, pucks, jerseys and more.
Saturday also marks the end of the Hurricanes’ school supply drive to benefit Student U and StepUp Ministry. Participants will be entered to win one of five player-signed prizes. Collection bins will be located in the East Priority Lounge by the Foundation kiosk throughout the Celebration.
