Pittsboro, NC - It’s time again for the annual Pittsboro Relay for Life Event. But don’t go out to Northwood High on Friday night or you might be put to work setting up the event. “We decided after all the rain last year during our Friday night event that we would try something different this year”, said Carol Esau, Chairperson. “Our new Saturday event will give the community more opportunities to come out and support our fight against cancer and it also gives us more opportunities for activities and entertainment for all ages”.

The Pittsboro Relay for Life Event kicks off with a Mega Yard Sale starting at 7 am Saturday morning on the Northwood High Tennis Courts. We will have thousands of items including designer clothing, furniture, accessories, baby and children’s items, books, CDs, games and much more. Everyone is invited and there’s never an admission fee to the event.

If you’ve never been to the Relay for Life, it’s always like a large community reunion and carnival. There will be inflatables for the kids and they will have their own Kids Walk at 9 am. Many of the area’s costumed characters will be in attendance to walk around the track with the children. “It’s never too early to teach your children to give back to the community”, said Erin Kaplan, Kids Walk Chairperson. “We would love to have the track full.” Children can register the morning of the event for $5.

At 10 am, the community’s survivors will be honored by walking or riding the opening lap. Their caregivers will join them for the second lap. A reception will be held for the survivors at the event starting at 9 am. Survivors may also pick up their t-shirts that morning.

The Pittsboro Annual Relay for Life Motorcycle Ride starts at Lowe’s Home Improvement at 11 am (registration at 10 am) and will go through the county and end at Northwood in time for lunch.
