Walmart Express is closing

16 Walmart Express stores are closing in North Carolina by the end of January 2016.

In North Carolina, 16 of the stores are a Wal-Mart Express. The 17th store is a Wal-Mart Supercenter in Durham.

More than 95 per cent of the stores set to be closed in the U.S. are within 10 miles of another Wal-Mart.

The store closures will start at the end of the month. Walmart says it is working to ensure that workers are placed in nearby locations. In cases where that is not possible, Wal-mart said it would provide employees 60 days of pay and if eligible, severance, in addition to resume and interview skills training.
