Winston-Salem, NC – Wake Forest University has announced its slate of football non-conference opponents for the 2016 season.
The Demon Deacons will play three home non-conference games in 2016 including contests against Tulane, Delaware and Army West Point. Wake Forest’s only road non-conference game will be at Indiana.
Wake Forest will open the 2016 campaign at home on Thursday, September 1 against Tulane. The Green Wave are a member of the American Athletic Conference and finished the 2015 season at 3-9 overall. Tulane is currently searching for a new head coach to replace Curtis Johnson.
The Deacons will be at home on Sept. 17 to play the University of Delaware. A member of the Football Championship Subdivision, the Blue Hens play in the Colonial Athletic Conference. UD went 4-7 this past year under head coach Dave Brock. Wake Forest offensive coordinator Warren Ruggiero is a graduate of Delaware and defensive line coach Dave Cohen is a former Blue Hen assistant.
Wake Forest will make its first trip to Bloomington, Indiana to face the Hoosiers on Sept. 24. Wake Forest fell to IU 31-24 at BB&T Field this past season.
The final non-conference game of the year will be at home against Army West Point on Oct. 29 at BB&T Field. The Deacons downed the Black Knights 17-14 on Sept. 19 when Mike Weaver booted a 47-yard field goal as time expired.
In addition, Wake Forest will play eight Atlantic Coast Conference games. At home, the Deacons will face Atlantic Division rivals Boston College, Syracuse and Clemson. Wake Forest will also host Coastal Division member Virginia. On the road, the Deacons will visit Florida State, NC State, Duke and Louisville.
Wake Forest will have seven home games for the first time since the 2012 campaign.
Dates and times for all non-conference games are subject to change pending the full release of the ACC schedule.
